New Viral E-mail, Pelosi Wants Windfall Tax, “to help the 12 Million Illegal Immigrants”

2009 March 12

Adding a tax to your retirement is simply another way of saying to the American people, you’re so darn stupid that we’re going to keep doing this until we drain every cent from you. That’s what the Speaker of the House is saying. Read below……………

Nancy Pelosi wants a Windfall Tax on Retirement Income.  In other words tax what you have made by investing toward your retirement. This woman is a nut case! You aren’t going to believe this.

Madam speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to put a Windfall Tax on all stock market profits (including Retirement fund, 401K and Mutual Funds! Alas , it is true – all to help the 12 Million Illegal Immigrants and other unemployed Minorities!

  This woman is frightening.
She quotes…’ We need to work toward the goal of equalizing income, (didn’t Marx say something like this), in our country and at the same time limiting the amount the rich can invest.’  ( I am not rich, are you)

When asked how these new tax dollars would be spent, she replied:
’We need to raise the standard of living of our poor, unemployed and minorities. For example, we have an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in our country who need our help along with millions of unemployed minorities. Stock market windfall profits tax could go a long way to guarantee these people the standard of living they would like to have as ‘Americans’..’  (Read that quote again and again and let it sink in.  ‘Lower your retirement, give it to others who have not worked as you have for it’.

Send it on to your friends. I just did!! This lady is out of her mind and she is the speaker of the house!

The only problem with all of this is reality.  Sources are saying that Pelosi’s comments are
being take out of context.  Does trickle down economics work?  Let’s ask the millions of
Americans out of work.  Do you think labor taxes should be higher then taxes on stock
market gains?  I don’t.  I tend to think that when you work for your money, it shouldn’t be
taxed as high or even an equal percentage as capital gains and windfall taxes.
Besides, windfall taxes aren’t even levied at individuals retirement stocks.  They are levied
towards businesses that benefitted during an economic down turn, as Investopedia defines:
What Does Windfall Tax Mean?
A tax levied by governments against certain industries when
economic conditions allow those industries to experience
above-average profits. Windfall taxes are primarily levied on
the companies in the targeted industry that have benefited the
most from the economic windfall, most often commodity-based
Hmm, what business has gained considerable profits during the last two years of economic downturns?
You guessed it, Big Oil has had record profits, check it out here, here, and here.  And that’s with
just a few seconds on google.  ’Exx-on, you’ve got some explaining to doooo!’
You can read a more indepth look at Pelosi’s interview over at Snopes.com.  And the
Lighthouse Patriot Journal has a write up on what they think of the accusations.

By the way – it has been proven that when it comes to political discussion – Snopes is bias. Poor choice for a one and only source.

    Thanks for the ping …
Would you killed the Golden Goose that lays the egg?
Would you like to be unemployed because the government portrays business entities as “evil”?
Government IS the problem, not corporate America. Laws are in place concerning business ethics and as long as they follow them, why in the world would you punish someone or a business entity for success?!
What needs to go with the dinosaurs is the income tax system and its progressive hogwash.
A flat, fair tax is the way to go and based upon consumption, not income. And, according to the laws of percentages, the more one spends (the more one makes as income), the more tax is paid. Examine closely the Fair Tax Act sponsored by Rep. John Linder and examined and backed up by leading economists of America.
Imagine April 15th being just another day. Imagine bringing home ALL the money earned. Imagine yourself determining where it should be spent. Imagine the economy gaining a boost because of it. Imagine a government that will have to trim its budget like the rest of us when economic problems occur.
Imagine a government less intrusive, officials performing what they are paid to do, and our lives becoming our own. I know, it is tough to stand on one’s own feet, but the only social programs available should be those designed to get a citizen back on their feet when times are hard. Most welfare recipients are in that state because they made a bad life decision and have no incentive to turn it around. Examine the biography of Star Parker as a perfect example of someone who changed their life around – by weaning herself away from the “helping” hand of taxpayer funded government social programs.
America is still a great place to be – we just need to change its course, through a more knowledgeable citizenship who doesn’t view the affairs of our government as a forbidden or unaccepted political discussion. How strange that the American people will blindly allow those in Washington, DC to juggle our lives around as they see fit – all for a promise of security, which is a false one.
Gist of my disagreement – you don’t punish the productive side of society, you diminish those amount of citizens who are unproductive. That occurs with proper education and knowledge. With the income tax system there is always loopholes for those who seek them. In the Fair Tax system with a flat non-progressive tax rate, those who make more spend more and thus contribute more to the funding of our government. What you are commending is income redistribution – a fundamental working of a socialist system. And what is the difference between socialists and communists? The communist leadership has the guns.
LjLiving: Illegal immigrants are a problem – not LEGAL immigrants. Please learn the difference.

Government isn’t the problem, the problem is people running government that are against it, like Republicans. Taxes will never go away, the pay for our roads, our fire departments, our police, they help preserve our wildlife and our parks. I see government as MY employee, because I am paying them.

Your over simplistic views of Welfare recipients and low income Americans tells me you’ve had a little to no contact with people in those positions.

We’re a civilized country, why is it that we can’t figure out a way for everyone to have the basic necessities for living. Police protection, fire department assistance, healthcare, food, shelter.

Corporate American isn’t the problem, they aren’t the answer either. Nothing is black or white. Capitalism doesn’t work in its pure form. Democracy doesn’t work in its pure form. Socialism doesn’t work in its pure form. We already have a socialist police department, fire department, parks and recreation services. Would you prefer privatizing police and fire departments? If so, you’re either crazy, or rich and inhumane. Lets mix the three and come up with a happy medium.

Everyone in America should have health care.

Your delusional if you really think that corporations really pay their fair share of taxes.

      Check out,

or type in google, ‘corporations don’t pay their taxes’

You’re allowing corporate interest groups to pull the wool over your eyes with this nonsense argument of ‘why tax those who are successful’ argument.

With all due respect, I know the difference very well and have experienced the “problem” first hand- on both sides of the fence if you will pardon the pun.

Illegal immigrants are illegal because of how difficult we make it for them to come over. That is not to say that there aren’t those who try to suck the system dry, but I can name quite a few all American’s who don’t pay a dime into the tax system, live quite happily that way, and still have the nerve to complain about “our” taxes supporting illegal aliens.

And who are we talking about here? Mexican? Chinese? Germans? While there are certainly more immigrants of the not-so-white persuasion, we don’t even pay attention to those that are. I have worked with immmigrants both legal and illegal from Ireland, Jamaica, the Philippines, Mexico, Brazil etc. you name it. Every one of them worked like mules for next to nothing. Tell me how that is a problem? Because they didn’t grow up reciting the Pledge of Allegiance? Most of the “illegal” folks that I know and have known, have more patriotism for the US in their pinkies than the rest of us do. They still believe in the dream. They still believe that we can be trusted. They still have the silly notion in their naive heads that they won’t be discriminated against, that they won’t be taunted or hated, that they can be accepted as Americans and treated as such.

Notice the ” ” and how the beginning part is a different color background? Yeah, I didn’ t write that part. That’s the part that is the “viral e-mail” that the article is about. I’m denouncing the entire thing. Besides, I’m addressing the false claim of taxation to retirement funds which the e-mail is about, it then goes on to tell people that Pelosi wants to tax your retirement so she can pay for “12 million illegal immigrants,” which is obviously a scare tactic because right-wing republicans are scared of immigrants, especially of Latino descent.

I fully understand the implications of what would truly happen if this country kicked out every single illegal immigrant. Over night, there would be thousands of industries that would be out of business, farms that would collapse and rot, construction crews would be skeleton like, and the restaurant industry would be doomed. Just for starters.

While I may not agree with your assertion that immigrants “work twice as hard” as Americans do, I will agree that they’ll do it for less money.

I have to tell you that your claim to liberalism seems slightly shakey when you denounce immigrants so flagrantly.

While I can certainly sympathize with the reluctance to pay for the lifestyle of the willfully unemployed, I cannot agree with this lumping together of immigrants in such a way as to make them seem like predators on our oh so wonderful nation.

Immigrants, from my experience, work twice as hard and twice as long as most “native” Americans do. While I know there are many who aren’t paying taxes (although they would if they could become citizens with greater ease) those non-tax-paying citizens are in fact filling jobs that the rest of us think are below our pay grade, or below us period.

While what we are currently experiencing economically is a difficult mess, most of the immigrants that are here illegally come from far worse conditions than any we have or ever will experience. Why is it that we are so hard on people trying to escape poverty, tyranny, communism etc but we welcome with open arms the Englishman or the Australian who has no intention of working even a quarter as hard?
