Uh Oh! Bush Torture Memo Describes Waterboarding as Torture

2009 April 17

We’ve heard plenty of arguments about what torture is and isn’t.  Many times Dick Cheney and his cohorts have intensely defended water boarding as an enhanced method of interrogation.  Well, now there’s evidence that a memo from the Attorney General’s Office sent to the CIA, specifically defined water-boarding as torture, not enhanced interrogation.

Uh oh, doesn’t that make everyone involved a criminal.  Let’s see a show of hands; if torture is a crime, and you commit torture, aren’t you a criminal?  That should be a resounding, “YES!”  Well, now is the time for Holder and the Attorney General’s Office to right the wrongs and begin investigations and prosecutions for everyone involved.  Everyone, means everyone.  ”Obeying orders,” is not a justifiable defense for committing a crime.

Here’s the footnote from the memo:

The reason “threat of imminent death” is mentioned is because that is one of the many things that constitute torture.  There is a threat of imminent death, water-boarding sucks.  I know, I’ve tried it on myself with the help of some friends and didn’t last more than a few minutes.  If you breath in, it feels like you’re drowning.  I didn’t tie myself down; I can only imagine how frightening it would have been if I couldn’t lean up when I’d had enough.

This is probably the weakest example of water-boarding you’ll find, and that’s the point!  It was bad enough like this, now imagine it going on for hours, with your hands and feet tied down, and your head held back.  Can you honestly say that isn’t torture?

Let’s put Dick Cheney, George Bush, Alberto Gonzalez, Donald Rumsfeld, and dozens more in jail for torturing inmates so we can set a precedence for America’s future that we will be accountable, we will act morally, and we will not allow criminals to hide within our borders.  America, make me proud!

Why get so hung up on words? Who the hell cares if three terrorists were ‘tortured’ for about 30 seconds each? Did you have any idea that more than 10,000 US military personnel have been waterboarded as part of their training? Lets see, 3 truly bad people versus 10,000 Americans. I can live with that. Every Fall tens of thousands of fraternity boys get hazed and experience far worse “torture” than what these three terrorist scum were subjected too (thank US lawyers for their protection).

Why do you care more about how our enemy gets treated than about how civilians get treated? Do you give a crap about the women and homosexuals in the middle east that are beaten, stoned and killed every day? Probably not. Do you care about the Americans that are assaulted, raped or killed in America by illegal immigrants every day? Probably not, and you probably think I’m a racist for even bringing that up.

Why does the loony left persist with the childish rants about wanting to jail our leaders for war crimes when President Obama is now in charge and overseeing these very same “crimes?” Why did Obama decide to call off the prosecution of the three waterboarders? Why has Obama decided to keep and expand the executive privelege and secrecy you on the left hated so much? Why is Obama expanding troop presence? How can you support a man that keeps reversing himself on almost every issue you thought he supported?

Because you are a lemming full of Bush hatred, thats why. I wonder how you can sleep at night. Have fun playing with words while our military protects your very right to do so. (Overseas Coningency Operations instead of “War on Terror”, and Man Caused Disasters instead of “Terrorism”).

First off, you’re obviously racist and a moron. Not racist because of your opinion of Obama, but because you’d ask me why I don’t care about “illegal immigrants” raping American women. Really, that’s a stupid question. How much do you care that American women have been raped by private contractors in Iraq, hired by Bush and Cheney, but can’t be prosecuted thanks to laws set up by, again, Bush and Cheney?

I’m a veteran, I’ve defended those rights you talk about. Have you?

Your comparisons are glib, and don’t actually come close to what torture is nor its effects.

Obama hasn’t been in office but 3 months, if those policies don’t change we’ll see if he is able to get reelected. Once he loses the Left wing Dems he may not have a bucket to piss in.

You’re frightened of change, and the world scares you. Lets torture them, you say, ignorantly thinking that does America any good. It does nothing but harm America.
